Fendi Ombre Logo Basket Tote
Is it just me, or does this Fendi Ombre Logo Basket Tote have “Samantha Jones” written all over it? (No wait- it’s got “Fendi” written all over it.) While I could definitely see our lusty logo-loving New Yorker falling for this flashy Fendi, I’m not sure I can. Available in blue or red, the coated vinyl tote does have a certain over-the-top kitschy appeal that might be fun for a weekend afternoon or a trip to the beach. But with the economy looking the way it is, I’d feel a tad guilty carrying something so in-your-face logo-happy. Never mind trying to find the right outfit to wear it with… Available for $1,030 at Eluxury.com.
Nicole Richie continues to get mileage out of her Balenciaga City

For me, Nicole Richie has sort of fallen off the map. I used to be semi-obsessed with her style, tracking down Jil Stuart shorts and Curve camisoles like it was my job. Then she grew up, had a baby and disappeared. Nicole is still out and about every once in awhile, but I guess the paps don’t care about her anywhere near as much as they once did because we don’t get a ton of candid shots of her anymore. But when we do, you can bet 8 out of 10 times she’s rocking her good ol’ Balenciaga City in black. The bag goes with everything and is becoming a classic for those under 40. I love my own Balenciaga City to pieces and still find myself reaching for it, even after I’ve acquired other bags. Do you see the Balenciaga City as a classic purse?

Fendi Doctor B Buckle Tote

Finally, a new Fendi purse I can lust after. Though the designer label has had a few lapses in judgment lately, I’m taken by the whimsical charm of this Doctor B Buckle Tote from their cruise collection. It lacks the over-the-top eccentricity of Fendi’s other handbags, which is perhaps why I would consider adding it to my collection. The rainbow-hued stitching on a white leather background smacks of playful ’70s-era style - like something Marcia Brady might have worn out on a dream date with Davy Jones. Pair it with a colorful sundress or bikini - yes, it’s currently fall but it IS from the cruise collection, dearies - for maximum hotness. Available for $2,710 at Net-a-Porter.com.

Kiki Smith Limited Ed. Tote, Handbag of the Day
Kiki Smith, noted feminist sculptor and printmaker, teamed last year with Coach to produce a limited edition tote bag (only 100 were made), featuring original prints reminiscent of Smith’s well known nature iconography.
The bag is crafted from natural canvas and trimmed in silver snakeskin.
First available at the Whitney Museum, where Smith had a retrospective in 2007, the bag has reappeared at the New Museum, where it retails for $1,500 (a $200 increase over its original price a year ago).

Madonna’s New Louis Vuitton Ads

Eat your heart out, Guy. Madonna’s new campaign for Louis Vuitton proves that she’s not one to let a bitter divorce and a birth certificate that says she’s 50 bring her down. Shot by photographer Steven Meisel, the new ads show the Material Girl putting those yoga classes to good use while showing off two Louis Vuitton purses. I’m kind of into the exotic beading on the classic monogram style, but I have to save that the mustard-hued version with the oversized beads leaves me a little cold. What do you think?

Lauren Conrad carrying a white Balenciaga

Lauren Conrad sure has developed an affinity for Balenciaga, no? The reality TV star has been seen with a few Balenciaga motorcycle bags. The purse is timeless to some, trendy to others, and completely over with for the handbag elite. With so many fantastic bags to choose from the label, why keep going for the standard City in covered hardware? The stark white bag does nothing for her outfit. Between the shiny leggings and the bag it looks like LC has been shopping at the Olsen twins’ garage sale.

Swarovski Encrusted Samsonite Trunk
I’m going on a trip next week and although I’d love to have a new stylish suitcase I think this Swarovski Crystal Trunk by Samsonite Black Label is a bit over-the-top for my taste. Modeled after a popular 1920s style and covered from top to bottom in sparkling, glittering crystals, this trunk is a mix of flash and class — modern bling on a vintage design.
The trunks are available in a limited edition of only be 30 and although they were available on Colette just last week, as of today they’re no longer listed.
