Safety Pin Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Filed under:

I mentioned the Bodhi bags earlier this year but now they’ve released the Spring/Summer 2009 collection which offer a unique slant on what women want. The collection is seen as a “testament to a woman’s empowerment” by beautifying objects that were once associated with female drudgery like sewing and laundry such as the humble safety pin which has been reimagined as an exotic clutch. The collection begins at $300 and retails up to $12,000 and can be found in stores such as Fred Segal, Nordstrom, Takashimaya, and Neiman Marcus.

The Daily by Ecoist, Handbag of the Day

The Daily bag by Ecoist is not only an interesting and versatile shoulder bag but it’s also eco-friendly because it’s handmade out of folded, recycled newspaper. It has a sturdy, structured design (meaning it holds its shape and doesn’t slouch), is water resistant, and has comfortable padded handles. Self-lined with a magnetic snap closure, The Daily measures 15″ x 12″ x 6″ and sells for $158.

And if the newspaper print isn’t your thing you should check out their other designs using recycled magazines, Coca-Cola bottles, and even candy wrappers.

Devi Kroell Silk Explosion Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Filed under:

Devi Kroell Black Gold Framed Silk Explosion ClutchDevi Kroell has established herself as one of the finest handbag designers in the world. In the tradition of her framed clutches, like this Satin Frame Clutch we covered in June, we bring you the Silk Explosion Clutch.

The Devi Kroell Silk Explosion Clutch comes in purple, saffron and black gold (pictured), and features soft black silk adorned with great big “What struggling economy?” jewels. The detachable chain allows it to be worn as a clutch or an over-the-shoulder purse.

The thing I like most about this piece is its versatility. It would go well with solid colored dresses as well as most prints, and could also dress up a heels-and-jeans outfit very nicely, perhaps with a crsp white shirt.

The Silk Explosion Clutch is 9″ by 4.5″, and can be purchased here from Devi Kroell fo $1,490.

In an effort to reach more of its loyal American fan base, British handbag designer Mulberry has launched a U.S.-dedicated website where devoted shoppers can snap up its iconic bags.

One such design, the popular Bayswater (above), will be available in four jewel-toned ostrich shades exclusively to American shoppers through the new site. Each bag is a limited edition piece and retails for $3,995.

If you can’t justify the splurge, try using the site’s wish list feature so someone else might.

Prada Oversized Cervo Antik Tote

 prada-cervo-antik-tote.jpg

My how the seasons fly when it comes to fashion! Prada has already released their resort 2009 accessories, and this new version of the Cervo Antik Tote is a standout purse. The Oversized Cervo Antik Tote is perfect for toting around work papers, and even a laptop thanks to its size. Versatile enough to work year round, and even as a carry-on, this might be a winner for those who can afford it’s honkin’ price tag. At a whooping $2,250, the bag might be an investment if it’s the one bag of the year, but since it’s an old bag in a new color way, I’m hoping this price isn’t reflective of the place Prada accessories are heading.

Coach Suede Kristin Bag

Suede adds an instant shot of luxury to nearly anything. Example? This Coach Suede Kristin Bag, an otherwise fairly simple purse that’s coated in the rich material and accented with light leather trim. It’s only available in brown, so keep that in mind if you’re considering it. It’s practical and attractive, but it’s also a tad bit boring despite the fact that it’s impeccably made and boasts such touchable fabric. I’d love to see it in a berry or evergreen shade, instead of the season’s most basic neutral. Available for $598 at Coach.

Jessica Alba & Her Fendi Zucca Woven Crossword Bag

jessica-alba-and-her-fendi-zucca-crossword-handbag.jpg

Jessica Alba shocked the entertainment world when she smiled for the cameras this weekend. Ok, perhaps not for the cameras exactly, but a camera did happen to catch the usually sour-faced Alba with a rare happy grin. And why shouldn’t she be smiling? She’s got hot hubby Cash Warren on one arm, adorable baby Honor looking like a little style maven herself, a cup of joe in her hand and a Fendi Zucca Woven Crossword Bag on the other arm. Granted, I’m not a huge fan of the bag, but it looks suitably large enough for mommies to carry all the necessities. You can grab one for yourself for $1176 at Bluefly.

Burberry Lowry Tote

burberry-lowry-tote.jpg

It’s interesting how completely unexpected this Burberry Lowry Tote is. Would you even know it’s Burberry by looking at it? Made with some seriously ruched leather, this roomy tote has a bit of a croc-like appearance thanks to the color (an “English racing green”). I’m not loving it, actually, and think totes so practically designed should be a bit more sensible for everyday use. This wouldn’t work with half of the things in my wardrobe! Available for $2560 at MyTheresa.
