Milan Fashion Week: Prada Fall 2010

Avoiding the snow and the storms in New York and London? Jetset yourself over the Milan my darlings, for some continental style. Prada’s show Thursday made as much press for their use of ‘curvy’ models as the looks themselves. The clothing was meant to be “normal” clothes according to Miuccia Prada. Whether she was referring to the wearability (saleability!) or the body types on the runway, I’m not sure. Ladylike coats and suits with big collars were presented in safe black or a sketchy plaid pattern. I can’t help but think this plaid is very similar to the hash-tag like patterns in mossy colors that Prada did in the 1990’s at their first Bryant Park showing. Even the silhouettes look very very similar. I know this economy is tough, but I would think this powerhouse label doesn’t need to play it safe and have to show a rundown of their greatest hits.

The handbags were also familiar shapes. Modified hobos, larger shoppers in shiny crocodile, or plaid tweeds working back to the clothes. The hairstyles and makeup were reminiscent of the 1960’s a la Hitchcock’s ladies.
